Plug In

For a toaster to work is has to be plugged in. It needs a power source and it has to be connected to it. You can push the bread down into the toaster and hold it there all day if you want to, but if the toaster isn’t plugged in you won’t get toast. Sounds pretty basic, right? It’s just common sense isn’t it?

That same idea is how we need to look at Jesus. We’ve all heard of Jesus Christ. But have you plugged in to Him? Have you made that connection with your creator?

So let me ask you a question. If you were to die today, are you 100% sure that you would go to heaven, or would you say that is something your still working on?

If that is something your still working on, then let us share with you some good news. And it can be best summed up in God’s Word.

“For God loved the world so much that he gave his one and only Son, so that everyone who believes in him will not perish but have eternal life.” (John 3:16)

We’ve all heard of this verse before, but does it make sense to you? God loves you so much, that He sent His son to die for you. Do you want to be 100% sure that you go to heaven when you die? You can be, and its as simple as ABC.

Admit that you’re a sinner

Romans 3:23 says that all have sinned and have fallen short of the standard set by God. His standard is perfection! I will never be perfect! None of us will. That’s the problem. Because of our sin, according to Romans 6:23, we will die. If we were perfect we wouldn’t need God, we would never die and we wouldn’t need Jesus to die for us.

Believe that Jesus died and rose again to pay for your sin

The ultimate connection verse of the Bible, John 3:16, sums this up. Because of our sin, we can’t get to God. We can’t connect with Him because He is perfect. Jesus is that connection point. He was perfect and lived a sinless life. His sacrifice on the cross paid the penalty for your sin and mine! Then 3 days later He rose from the grave to conquer death and hell once and for all!  Because of that, we can have eternal life in heaven! He didn’t have to do it; He choose to do it because He loves you and wants to connect with you! That’s why He created you!

Confess your sins and commit your life to Him

If you admit that you’re a sinner and can’t save yourself, and you truly believe that Jesus died, was buried and rose again, then why not receive the free gift of eternal life right now! You don’t have to be in a church or at an altar. Right where you are, right now, pray and ask God to forgive you and become Lord of your life! Say it in your own words. Just talk to Him.

If you said that prayer and made that choice, you just made the greatest decision of your life! No one can ever take away the gift of God that you just received! In the book of John 10:28-30, Jesus talks about it!

” I give them eternal life, and they will never perish. No one can snatch them away from me, for my Father has given them to me, and he is more powerful than anyone else. No one can snatch them from the Father’s hand. The Father and I are one.”

You see, its not about a religion. Its a relationship with the creator of the universe!

What’s next?

The next step is to connect with fellow believers and start growing in your relationship with Him. A local church, like ABT, is a great place to do that! Our high school gatherings are on Sunday mornings at 9:30am and Wednesday nights at 6:30pm. For more info about those, click here.

Another great way to connect with God is through daily and/or weekly studies with someone who can help guide you. This is called “discipleship”. In Connect, we have some great tools for you! We have an eight week study book called “refresh & connect” that will take you through the basics of the faith and answer some of life’s big questions about God. These books are meant to be done with someone and not alone. If you need help getting someone to go through the book with, let us know and we’ll hook you up with someone.

Download a copy of “refresh & connect” here, or get one from Connect on Sunday morning or Wednesday night!

There is also “Jay’s Blog“, from youth pastor Jason Knight. Check it out and get some encouragement and a something from God’s Word to help you through the day. You’ll be amazed at the difference in your day by starting it out with God.

If you have more questions or need to know more, please let us know. As a youth ministry staff, all of us are here for you! Welcome to the family of God!
