Acts 2:42 – 3:11

As believers, we are all brothers and sisters in Christ. We are family (go ahead and sing the song…I’ll wait). So we need to treat each other like family. We need to help each other, be there for each other and bring new people into the family. We can’t isolate ourselves. God’s family works the best when we all work together.

Chapter 3 begins with the story about the beggar from the Beautiful Gate. We talked on Sunday about this, and how Peter and John had no money to give him, but they had purpose and they had power. But there is another side to this that can relate to us as well. Asking God for things. The beggar was asking for something temporary…money. But Peter gave him something much better and longer lasting; the use of his legs. So many times we ask God for things are just temporary. But God always sees the big picture. He may have something even better for you down the road.

Acts 2:5 – 41

Two main things stood out for me in our passage for today.

The first thing is the power the Holy Spirit can give. Can you imagine walking into a room of thousands of people who you know for a fact don’t speak english, and you can understand all of them! That’s cool stuff! But, as we talked about Sunday, there were people making fun and mocking. But that’s because they didn’t understand. Just like at the anime convention in Columbus, we didn’t understand. But its our job, our purpose, to bring other to that understanding. And that is exactly what Peter did beginning in verse 14.

Which brings me to the second thing that stood out for me; Peter is a stud. I love this guy because he tells it like it is and lets God do the rest. He spoke about a lot of things here. But did you notice where his focus was? It was all about Jesus.

At the end of his sermon he had about 3,000 people get saved and be baptized! Good grief! God can use anyone. It just goes to show that when you make your life all about Jesus, lives can be changed.

What about you? What did you think?

Yesterday we started a 6 week series on the book of Acts. I challenged you to begin reading the book of Acts with me. Starting today, I’m going to blog about it everyday! I figure this may be a way to help and keep us all on it.

Here’s how its gonna work. I’ve broken the book of Acts down to basically 30 verses a day, which is about 5 whole minutes at the most of reading! Everyday I will post what our reading is for the day and my thoughts on the passage.

Then its your turn.

Read the passage for yourself and post a little comment or something here on the site. This can be an awesome way for us to stay in God’s Word everyday as a group!

So here we go!

Acts 1 – 2:4

A few things stand out for me in these verses. First of all, the last thing Jesus tells us is our purpose and the promise of the power to do it, as we talked about yesterday.

I also love how in verse 11 of chapter 1 the angels have to tell the disciples to snap out of it and quit staring at the sky. Yeah, I know they just watched Jesus do His Superman thing, and I’d probably just stand there with my mouth hanging open to, but He’s coming back in the same way you saw Him go, so get to work!

Promises; Jesus promised that the Holy Spirit would come, and it did! We know we can count on Him to keep His promises. He’s proven it over and over and over again. And one day He’s gonna come back to get us, just like He promised!

Decisions. The Disciples had to pick someone to replace Judas (which I think was a good idea considering what he did and the fact that his guts spilled all over the place in verse 18! That’s just sick! But enough of Captain Obvious.) I hope you caught the way they finally choose Matthias. They let God lead the decision making. This was an important decision for them. How many important decisions do we make everyday and we don’t even ask God what He thinks about it? Or even the small decisions? He should have a part in all of them!

Well those are some of my thoughts. What did God show you?
